STATEMENT: An accomplished portrait painter, he explores his medium to the extent that he could depict the exact quality of the skin tone, also achieving mastery in capturing the quality of light. Female form and beauty is a major preoccupation of Surendra. But he also creates a varied cast of characters in his canvases - old men and women, children, domestic help. He works extensively in oil, watercolour and Conte on paper.
